ISSA President Doug Hogue

ISSA is thriving with growing interest in the preservation tools we represent. During presentations and discussions at our annual meeting, I realized that the more things change the more the basic demands on our association stay the same. Members are interested in growing the market and ask, “How do we get the word out?” During the technical sessions, there were many discussions about quality and the question being asked was, “How do we raise the quality and prevent bad projects that hurt our industry?” And during our business meeting, we discussed growth and “How do we gain more members and get them involved?”

The team at ISSA is working on these and many more issues today. These are exciting times for ISSA. Your board is working hard and getting things done and we are going to continue this path. We are in our second year of our 3-year strategic plan.  We are using our committees to complete the deliverables in this plan. To keep all of this moving forward, our board holds a monthly call.

I plan to continue building strength on our committees and we would like to get to a point in the future where these are not all chaired by board members. We believe this will take several years to accomplish but the result will be a stronger ISSA.

Achievements :

  •  Synergy Project is proving to be a success following the 2018 launch of ww.roadresource.org and we are promote the site this year.

o   Our first Super User Training was held March 28th in St. Louis.

  • Very Successful Workshop In Las Vegas this January with record breaking attendance. We are starting to talk about what to do when attendance breaks 500 and outgrows our current facility.
  • Young Members Committee kicked off at the workshop with 40-members. We are actively working to recruit, engage and involve our young members with committee work and a path to association leadership if they choose it. I challenge each of you to look at your organization and to present this opportunity to your up and coming staff, the future of our Association.
  • First Latin American Workshop held following the AEMA/ARRA/ISSA Annual Meeting in Cancun, Mexico.
  • Held our 2018 Fall Board Meeting at Auburn University along with the AEMA Board and together we toured NCAT, The Test Track, Lee County Road 59 and US Route 280

The ISSA Board welcomes your comments. Feel free to reach out to myself or any of the board members to talk about what ISSA is currently working on, what you would like to see ISSA do and what you can do to get more involved. The rewards of service to our organization go well beyond the tangible gains you make on our industry. You will gain friendships and a deeper understanding of the dedicated people that keep our industry thriving.
