Pavement Preservation for Flexible Pavements

This material is intended to cover a two-week period for an Undergraduate Civil Engineering Materials course on pavements.  

PowerPoint slide decks and lessons plans have been developed for the following topics:

• Defining pavement preservation
• Selecting a roadway for pavement preservation
• Managing contract administration, specifications, and cost
• Preparing for a project
• Constructing a project
• Inspecting a project

The lesson plans include learning outcomes, pre-readings, potential homework/quiz/exam problems, and teaching tips for the slide decks.  In addition to these resources, a document for chip seal design has been developed, along with a spreadsheet that calculates the asphalt emulsion application rate.   Finally, a project leveraging RoadResource.org has also been developed, with a key, that allows students to explore the benefits of using various pavement preservation treatments.
