GLEN ELLYN, IL, February 23, 2021 – During the 59th Annual Convention of the International Slurry Surfacing Association (ISSA), held virtually, February 15-18, 2021, ISSA’s President’s Award for Excellence was presented to Intermountain Slurry Seal, Inc. (ISS) for their work on the Glacier National Park Pavement Preservation Project by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The ISSA President’s Award was established to recognize those contracting achievements that best exemplify the highest quality of workmanship and materials, as well as conformance to best practices as defined by the International Slurry Surfacing Association. In 2018, ISS was awarded the Glacier National Park pavement preservation project by FHWA. Due the difficulty and inclement weather in Glacier National Park, it was contracted for 2 years and the 9-million-dollar project began in 2019 and was completed in July of 2020. The harsh environment working over the Continental Divide on the historical Going-to-the Sun Road proved to be the most difficult paving job our recipient has ever completed. This project used each of ISSA’s four pavement preservation treatments. According to Chris Rossmiller, FHWA/Western Federal Lands Highway Division, “The overall success of this project was a direct result of the great collaboration, dedication, foresight, expertise, and commitment to excellence ISS provided throughout the project.” ABOUT THE INTERNATIONAL SLURRY SURFACING ASSOCIATION (ISSA): Founded in 1963, the International Slurry Surfacing Association (ISSA) is a nonprofit association dedicated to the interests, education and success of slurry and micro surfacing, chip sealing and crack treatment professionals and corporations around the world.
