2024 Slurry Systems Workshop is Set to be a Grand Slam

Wednesday, November 15, 2023

It’s time to dust off the glove and bring out the warmups as the International Slurry Surfacing Association’s (ISSA) 2024 Slurry Systems Workshop is headed back to Las Vegas January 15-19. Held at its new location, Palace Station, this is one Workshop that is bound to be a homerun.

Jimmy Kendrick, Program Chair, along with his team, have created an agenda that will be a complete game shutout. After reviewing previous surveys and feedback, the committee has made some well-thought-out changes.

Batting first on Monday, January 15th is the Hands-On Day which will provide registered attendees with the experience of being part of a crew for the day. This additional registration fee will allow attendees to move through various stations focusing on calibration, mix design, machine setup and cleanup, and applying slurry and crack fill treatments. Only 75 tickets are being sold! If you are interested in registering for this event, please contact ISSA Staff. Taking a timeout from baseball on Monday night, join attendees at the Monday Night Football Cocktail Reception where the AFC/NFC Wild-Card Round will be shown. All are encouraged to wear your favorite sports memorabilia.

Back in the outfield Tuesday, attendees will start the day with a General Session that includes presentations on the new ISSA Mobile App for the Design and Inspection Manual for Slurry Systems, an overview of pavement preservation, the 2023 ISSA President’s Award winner, and hear from a panel of contractors. Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning will focus on ISSA Breakout Sessions. Attendees will have the opportunity to attend sessions focusing on crack fill treatments, technical, inspection, and advancement in pavement preservation. There will be a doubleheader Tuesday and Wednesday on the micro surfacing and slurry seal, and chip seal breakouts.

A change in the lineup this year is the Exhibitor’s Cocktail Reception. On Tuesday evening, come and check out what our exhibitors have to offer. Those in attendance could win a raffle prize!

On Wednesday afternoon, attendees are encouraged to fill the bleachers to view the Contractors Showcase followed by a demonstration on slurry seal, chip seal, and crack fill. To end the inning, grab a cold beverage and some snacks while taking a closer look at some of the equipment and treatments laid.

On deck for Thursday morning, attendees will hear from ISSA industry partners including FHWA, NCPP, NCAT and Women of Asphalt. In the final stretch of the Workshop, attendees will have an opportunity to select two different sessions to attend throughout the remainder of the day. In the morning, they can choose to attend a session on slurry & micro calibration and record keeping, distributor & chip spreader operation & calibration, or mix tables. During the afternoon, attendees can choose to attend slurry & micro calibration and record keeping or slurry surfacing troubleshooting. Additionally, new to the Workshop this year is a slurry surfacing mix design & accreditation hands-on session. This session has limited spots available. If you would like to register for this session, please contact ISSA staff.

Concluding the game, ISSA will offer offering knowledge-based exams on Thursday afternoon for both Micro Surfacing and Chip Seal. These exams are a great way to prep for the AASHTO TSP Certification exam offer through the National Center of Pavement Preservation (NCPP) on Friday, January 19. This exam is an additional registration through NCPP. To learn more, please visit: .
