Batter Up for Pavement Preservation: The Slurry Systems Workshop Slugs a 2025 Jackpot!

Wednesday, November 20, 2024

The International Slurry Surfacing Association (ISSA) is headed back to Las Vegas, NV for the 2025 Slurry Systems Workshop, January 20-23. Held at the Palace Station Casino and Resort, this is one spring training event you don’t want to miss.

Chaired by Jimmy Kendrick, Bergkamp Inc, and co-chair Jamie Wing, Ingevity, this Workshop offers a comprehensive program on slurry seal, micro surfacing, chips seals, and crack treatments. From industry veterans to newcomers to the industry, the Workshop offers something for everyone.

There have been some exciting changes to the schedule this year. First, after the well-received Contractors Panel in 2024, the committee decided to bring the panel back to the General Session on Tuesday morning. This year, it will be an industry panel featuring contractors, suppliers, and agencies discussing building relationships between them.

Next, Wednesday morning will offer a new Breakout Session named “Applications in Pavement Preservation.” This breakout will feature presentations on the use of RAP, fog seal, and slurry surfacing troubleshooting. The other Breakout Sessions for Tuesday and Wednesday include Micro Surfacing & Slurry Seal, Chip Seal, Crack Seal, Technical and Inspection for micro surfacing, chip seal, and crack seal.

Then, after feedback from participants, the Hands-On Day has moved to Wednesday afternoon. This additional registration offers participants an up close and in-depth look at what it takes to operate some of the most prominent equipment that is used in ISSA treatments. Participants are encouraged to get involved, participate, and get their hands dirty. The Hands-On Day is limited to 75 registrants with limited spaces remaining. If you are already registered and interested in participating in this session, please contact ISSA Staff.

Thursday also has a few changes. Similar to the past Hand Mix Tables, the new Calibration & Demo Tables will be offered as a morning breakout session. Participants will have the opportunity to rotate between tables that focus on slurry seal, micro surfacing, laboratory equipment, chip seals, and crack seals. Thursday afternoon allows participants to attend the Slurry Surfacing Mix Optimization & Accreditation Hands-On Session (limited spots available) or learn the ins and outs of RoadResource.org.

Lastly, ISSA is partnering with NCPP to offer certification exams for chip seal, slurry systems, and crack seal on Friday, January 24th. The exam is closed book/closed note and a score of 70% or higher is needed to pass. The exam tends to take participants 45 to 90 minutes to complete. Please note, these exams require a separate registration and an additional charge. For more information about the certification process, please call NCPP at 517-432-8220, or visit https://www.tsp2.org/certification-information/.

The 2025 Slurry Systems Workshop could not be made possible without its generous sponsors. Sponsorships are available to ISSA Members only and receive one (1) complimentary registration, tabletop exhibit, company logo on event website, and remaining promotional emails. If you are interested in sponsoring, please contact Ali Mostardo at alim@cmservices.com for more information.

ISSA looks forward to seeing everyone in Las Vegas in a few short months. To view everything that is planned and more information, visit the Slurry Systems Workshop event site today!
